BREAST RECONSTRUCTION

Breast reconstruction will be discussed with all patients undergoing mastectomy. Reconstruction can be immediate or delayed. They can be implant based or autologous.

Implant Based Reconstruction 

• Can be direct to implant or expander based
• Is placed beneath the pectoralis muscle and usually utilises mesh
• Ideally suited for smaller breasted patients
• Larger breasted patients usually require skin reducing technique as part of procedure

The most suitable form of reconstruction will vary from patient to patient. An individualised approach will be discussed with each patient, taking into account their preferences and medical history.
